DGMR's Hans van Leeuwen was a guest speaker at the IOA-seminar 'What the numbers really mean' on 7 December 2015 in Wetford. He was invited by UK's Institute of Acoustics to talk about uncertainty of noise calculation methods.
In his presentation Hans van Leeuwen showed some actual and new developments in the world of modelling for environmental noise calculations. He and Erwin Hartog van Banda jointly prepared the content for this presentation. It focused on how the models are constructed and models are an implementation of a particular approach which includes uncertainties/assumptions. Computer software is not the same as a standard. Every software's implementation introduces additional interpretation. And that the model's construction introduces further uncertainty/assumption/error as input data does.
There was much appreciation for his contribution. Here you find a handout of this presentation.
