Grip on disruptions

Traffic is growing, industrialisation is moving forward and production processes are becoming more refined. At the same time, we are building lighter and higher (residential) buildings than ever. Vibrations are a nuisance and can cause disturbance and even damage. So, attention for this issue is more and more important. When the occurrence of vibrations can hardly be avoided, how do you maintain control?

Specialised technical research

DGMR’s consultants offer technical, political and organisational support and consultancy to companies, government and infrastructure managers. Our field of expertise includes the performance of very specialised technical research into situations in which vibrations and (low-frequent) noise play an important part. We measure the vibrations, analyse the results and monitor the implemented solutions.

More information about vibrations

  • Vibration measurements

In case of nuisance caused by vibrations, DGMR determines the vibration levels by means of measurements. And we check these levels against the relevant directives or building regulations. Based on these measurements, we can usually ascertain the (probable) source or cause of the nuisance. Our consultants’ extensive experience in vibrations’ behaviour in the ground and constructions helps in this matter. Together with the parties involved, we can then search for a solution for the encountered nuisance, and offer our advice in the possible measures.

  • Vibration analyses

When a production or laboratory environment imposes high demands on minimising vibrations, DGMR can offer consultancy as early as the design stage of this environment. We start with the requirements set by the production process or the laboratory set-up. If necessary, we carry out reference measurements to make sure that these requirements are unequivocal and realistic. We then analyse how the requirements can be incorporated into the building’s design. This could lead to consultancy on the use of stiffeners for or isolation of construction elements and/or applying vibration isolation under installations or appliances. This all happens in close collaboration with the design team.

  • Monitoring and communication

Vibrations also occur wherever people are building. The primary goal is to prevent damage, but also to reduce nuisance. This is especially crucial in case of construction near houses, museums or laboratories. After the assessment of potential nuisance and risks, our consultants can assist in monitoring vibrations during construction activities. DGMR can also take care of the communication with the parties involved.
